Countdown to the 12 Steps
1. We assumed control of the alcoholics and began to manage their life
2. Came to believe that our alcoholic was insane - and that only we could restore
them to sanity
3. Made a decision that “our will be done – come hell or high water”
4. Made a searching and fearless moral inventory of our alcoholic
5. Admitted to anyone who would listen that our alcoholic was insane
6. Were entirely ready to have God remove them
7. Arrogantly pointed out their shortcomings
8. Made a list of all persons they had harmed and lived in dread of ever seeing them
9. Went out of our way to make amends for our alcoholic, especially when to do so was
financially and emotionally devastating
10. Continued to take their inventory and when they were wrong, promptly berated them
for it
11. Sought through denial and manipulation to increase our control over their life,
praying only that God would fix things our way
12. Having had a nervous breakdown as a result of these steps….
WE ADMITTED WE WERE POWERLESS OVER THE ALCOHOLIC- THAT OUR LIVES HAD BECOME UNMANAGEABLE.
