Service

Al-Anon is based on the principle and tradition of service where there is but one authority, a loving God expressed through a common group conscience. Our leaders do not govern, but are dedicated to serving rather than directing or controlling. We share in the tradition of serving with the purpose of helping those who have been affected by someone else's drinking.  Many grateful members of Al-Anon have shared that volunteering to help others in loving ways, liberates us to move beyond our troubles and inspires a passion to contribute unconditionally. Service can be practiced in various ways by simply setting up chairs, welcoming newcomers, or sharing at a meeting. Instead of what life is giving us, perhaps we might profit more by asking what we ourselves can give.
